Details of the Project It is a unique project. All the members are traditional stone quary workers and employees of the existing private granitequaries in the area. All the nine groups jointly formed a federation called Thogamalai Vattara Kal Udaippor Mahalir Suya Udhavi Kuzhu Kootamaippu.

The members carry out the daily work in the work shed area allotted to them by the Government.

At present the waste of Granite Quary is being supplied to the workers as raw material by the private quarries by the intervention of the District Collector.

Recently 4 quarries had been allotted to the groups for a period of 5 years.There is no pucca path facilities to make access to quarry site. Steps are being taken to lay raods.

After that production will be in full going.

Economics of the Project

Project is yet to commence its commercial production.

Group Dynamics

Every Member in the group is fully aware of the project, their responsibility and benefits.

Sharing of Responsibility

Animator and Representative of each group are the members in the federation.The members meet on a monthly basis and discuss abou the issues and take decision.

Marketing & Pricing

At present the buyers call at the center itself and procure stones as per demand.

Accounting/Cash Management

Smt.Kalaikumari, Representative of Angalaparameswari SHG is maintaining accounts and managing the cash movement.The federation has opened a separate SB account in the Bank for accounting the Receipts/Payments.The accounts will be read out in the monthly meeting of federation and approval will be given.She is paid an amount of Rs.2000/- p.m. from the profit.

Other information

Steps taken by the District Collector in organizing these quarry workers is work monitoring.

DRDA has arranged for a common work center with 4 work sheds under the SGSY Infrastructure Fund.

District Collector took enormous interest and made arrangements for allotment of qurry to these groups without open auction/tenders.

Profit Sharing

1 Lorry load = 240 Iron Plates

1 Lorry Load Jallies cost = Rs.700/-

Out of this, Rs.100/- is taken as reserve and Rs.600/- is being shared @ Rs.2.50 per plate and paid to the members according to the no.of plates contributed by them.

In this way the Federation has mobilized a reserve of Rs.54,000/- so far.

The reserve is being utilized in an effective manner as below:

a) Out of this reserve only the federation paid the lease amount to the Government.

b) Paid Rs.3000/- for 2 members @ Rs.1500/- each to meet out the medical expenses towards the small accidents/injuries met by the members in the work spot, which is not repayable.

c) Payment of Salary to Smt.Kalaikumari @ Rs.2000/-p.m., to manage the affairs of the Federation.

d) Incase if there is no demand/sale of stones, members will be given a loan for consumption purposes by the Federation on the recommendations of Animator/Representative without waiting for next Federation Meeting.The loan is repayable on receipt of money by sale of their produce.

e) As a special case last month the Federation had given loan to meet out Deepavali expenses out of this reserve which is repayable in instalments.

f) Apart from the expenses and lease amount at present they have a reserve of Rs.24,000/-.
